DIY Mini WC Palette

Hello Friends,

Last week I went to the big city (for PEI) of Charlottetown and visited Michael's. I saw some cute mini watercolour palettes, but at $40 a pop I decided to pass.

Recently, Terry finished off some peppermints and I confiscated the tin. It occurred to me that it would make a nice mini WC palette.

I thought about buying some half-pans to fit the tin, but I didn't know if that would work with its rounded corner design. Then I noticed the caps on our water bottles. We take our bottles in for refunds, but the caps are left behind. I discovered that six caps fit the tin perfectly.  Then I realized I could fit another layer in the tiny tin.

It was a simple matter of hot-gluing the first layer of caps to the bottom of the tin. Then I cut a piece of acetate packaging (from a stamp set) to slightly smaller than the tin. I glued my next layer of caps to the acetate.

Since I didn't have 12 colours of tube watercolours, I filled my palette with guache paints. I left them open to dry, which took 3-4 days. The acetate layer sits on top of the bottom layer of paint-filled caps. When I want to paint, I take out the top layer and set it on the lid. That way I have easy access to all 12 colours in a very compact area.

These are only cheap paints that I had in my stash. The WC paints I saw at Michael's were better quality. But since I only wanted something small to use in my sketchbook, I'm very pleased with this no-cost DIY result. What do you think?
Thanks for visiting.

Hugs & smiles,
Teresa

What a great idea! Have you used it yet? Yes the bird was my design, we got back from Spain yesterday and I hope to do some more painting next week.

Well, aren't you the clever one! The Hubster just purchase a bunch of paint for me. I will have to see if this will work in an Altoids tin!
