Hello Friends,
Today's challenge was to dream about how you would like your art to look and feel.
I never really did much art when I was younger, but I did like to draw faces. When I started to paint (in my 50s), I naturally wanted to paint faces. That was, until I heard from so many artists that portraits were the most difficult thing to do. I have to admit I let some intimidation creep in. I figured I should try to work on painting easier subjects and work my way up to painting faces. I'm beginning to think that was a mistake.
The portraits I've seen that I admire most have wild colours, textures and are not photo-realistic. In fact, I prefer art (and writing) that has a bit of fantasy and whimsy in it.
So today, I decided to just go for it. I used palette knives for the background and to 'draw' the face. I sliced and slathered on blues and red, with a bit of white. Then I dabbed and rubbed on paint with my fingers. The first two photos are what I did within the 30 minute time frame.
After supper, I took another 15 minutes to carve out some detail. It might have been a mistake. At first, I was only going to add highlights in the eyes, but I couldn't stop there. I'm not sure if I like the before version, or the after version best. I'd love to hear your opinions. Did I overdo it, or make it better?

It's BRILLIANT! Well done. Both versions are good, but I like the second one better. Have a great weekend, hugs, Valerie
I think the second one has more realism and more impact, Great work x
