Encaustic Mono Prints

 Hello Friends,

Recently I joined Shari Replogle's Patreon channel. You can see her Wax on Wednesdays encaustic videos on You Tube. As I made my way through her videos, I decided to try a technique she used for mono printing from a hot plate. It was something I'd never tried before and it looked like fun. (It was)

My hot plate is a food warming tray. One problem I ran into was that it turns off automatically on the lower settings so I had to keep adjusting the temperature. That meant sometimes getting different results than I intended.

One of the things I love about Shari Replogle as a teacher is that she encourages experimentation and play. I'm convinced that is the only way to discover your own artistic style. The most important thing I learned from this practice was discovering what appeals to me in my own art

Once I started selling some of my paintings, I focused on what people (mainly tourists) wanted to buy, instead of what I truly liked to create. My 'voice' was lost in the production of sell-able product. I'd nearly forgotten what it was to create for the sheer enjoyment of it.

I like weird. I like fantasy & whimsy. I prefer to be surprised by what I create, rather than being in total control.

I'm determined to rediscover my style, regardless of what others like or dislike. Perhaps I'll even figure out how to record my process so I can share it with you. In the meantime, here is a flip-through of the mono prints I created.

hugs & smiles,

Teresa
