This month a new Progressive Freebie Challenge was started at The Outlawz, one of my favourite crafty hang-outs. Their first sponsor is Simply Betty Stamps, who provided December's free digi.
I started with this word that I wanted to combine somehow with the image, but I wasn't sure what I was going to do.
Next I printed the image eight times. I practiced with the hair on a few of the images, using Prisma colour pencils. Then I started on the stockings. Because I printed this detailed image out at 2 1/2 inches, toes to the tip of the star, it was very challenging to colour. I couldn't get my pencils to a fine enough point so I switched to pens on some parts of the image. I used a green pen for the cord of the lights and sapphire blue glitter glue for the lights themselves.
My original plan for the word was to use different shades of red for an ombre effect, but it didn't work out. The lighter red markers were lost on the already-red surface and the burgundy marker I used at the bottom just made it look dirty. So I scrubbed the surface with peroxide and an old toothbrush and started over. Red glitter embossing powder for most of it and a combination of clear, white and silver at the bottom for snow. Once that was done I hot-glued green cord and teardrop rhinestone to the top for hanging lights.
I forgot to mention that I fussy-cut and decoupaged all eight layers of the image together. Then I added a thick layer of Crystal effects. All of this took some hours to dry, but it left me with a hardened little gal who became the final crowning touch to this Christmas decor piece.
I hope that you all had a lovely Christmas and that you are looking forward to a safe and happy New Year.
Hugs & smiles,
Teresa
