I don't have a new drawing for you today because I have been painting. My friend, Angela (Crafting with Jack) has made her personal challenge to draw and/or colour every day. She draws beautiful flowers and obviously enjoys them IRL too. Me, I love birds. I also love to paint, but I have gotten away from it. So while Angela is challenging herself to draw and colour, my personal challenge is to draw and paint.
A few weeks ago I picked up a water colour painting kit for $3. It was complete and had never been used.
It is a great kit for a beginner water colour artist such as myself, with very basic instructions and lots of illustrations.
There are reference pictures to paint and even an illustration of how water colours behave on different papers.
There is a nice pad of water colour paper with no pages missing.
The paints looked old, but none of them were ever opened and they were in perfect condition. The two paintbrushes included in the kit were also perfect and never used.
I watch a lot of painting tutorials by Lindsay Wierich (The Frugral Crafter) and follow her blog. She mentioned in one You Tube video that she often works on several paintings at once so she doesn't have to stop to dry her work as she goes along. She just switches to the next painting and the one after that. By the time she gets through them all, the first one is dry. So I thought I would give that a try.
I printed out two of my Willow Goldfinch images on water colour paper and then secured them to box board with painters tape. That prevents them from warping when they get wet. It also leaves a nice border around the edges. Then I worked on the backgrounds. I haven't painted the birds yet.
I also printed out two "Bless This Nest" images (Monday's post) and a digital image from another artist. I won't show that one here.
This one will fit an 8x10 frame. I haven't painted the birds yet. The blue is painters tape.
Here is the one painting that I completed. The first pic is with the painters tape on; the second is with it removed.
And a close-up of the happy couple.
I would like to mount this onto a canvas, but I am not sure how that will work. I can't decoupage over the top because all of the paint will smear. Any suggestions?

Your painting is gorgeous, love the soft colours, and what a bargain that set is - well done! You can glue it to your canvas with a good, dry glue that won't make waves in the paper. Hugs, Valerie

What a great find you made with that watercolor set, Teresa, and you certainly put it to good use! Lovely colors in the sky and tree. I don't know anything about how you could apply the painting to canvas. All I've ever seen are framed water colors.
