2 Crafty Critter Crazies - Challenge #13

Hello Folks,

This month, at 2CCC, our sponsor is Linda Simpson Designs. I used selections from her Les Beaux Oiseaux Designer Ephemera for my encaustic paintings with collage. The verses are my own.

Encaustic is a form of art using wax. I received a beautiful encaustic kit for Christmas, plus two bags of encaustic medium.

These pieces are mixed media, but in my first piece, most of the colour was painted with wax blocks and my encaustic iron. I added a bit of gold pigment powder, which I rubbed in with my finger and then set with my heat gun. I used several layers of encaustic medium to adhere and seal my collage pieces. Encaustic must be heat-fused and then cooled between each layer. When the piece is finished, you buff it with a paper towel or cotton cloth to bring out the shine.
My tag is even more of a mixed media piece. I started with layers of acrylic paint. I sealed those with several layers of encaustic medium, my collage pieces, another layer of encaustic medium, and then some gold pigment powder. Then I brushed on some black India ink. Of course, all wax layers had to be heat-set and then cooled. To finish it off, I added some handmade paper beads and black fancy yarn.
Of course I can't give you the lovely ephemera images; you will have to get those yourself; but you are welcome to use my verses on your projects. I will leave them below.

Hugs & smiles,
Teresa

Here is the above verse, set against the background of one of my paintings.

This is just so magnificent, Teresa! I love mixed media even though I rarely do any of it myself. Love your verses and have saved them away for future use. :-D

oh so GORGEOUS, TERESA! Loving every aspect of your creations. It's been forever since I used my encaustic waxes, and I bought a bundle of them! The bead work in your tassel is lovely, as are your pretty sentiments. Wonderful mixed media projects, and so beautifully done! hugs, de {Creative Smiles - my little crafting world}

Beautiful mixed media tag! Love the shine! I love the look of mixed media, but whenever I try making something mix media it just looks like I glued stuff on top of each other! Your tag is gorgeous!
