Playing with Scraps - Part One

I have been playing with paper scraps the last couple of days. I started yesterday when I had very little time to work or create anything in particular. Then I got hooked and made some embellishments out of my scraps today. But that is for another post.

I find it very easy and relaxing to make pieced backgrounds for cards out of paper scraps. I began by making 1/4 inch strips out of my longer pieces and gluing them diagonally on cardstock pieces, also from my scrap stash.

 In the past, my glued strips have started to peel up. To avoid that happening, I painted over them with my homemade Modge Podge. Once everything was dry (this morning) I trimmed the edges and ran them through my Big Shot with various embossing folders.

I even managed to sneak in a strip of water colour paper that I used to sop up paint from a previous project. Can you see which one it is? Since I used coloured cardstock I left spaces between my strips.

Next I used a combination of torn strips and cut strips to use up some more paper scraps. I have a lot. In these first two pieces I used a dark burgundy cardstock for my backing. The process was the same as for the 1/4 inch strips except I placed these randomly. I also sealed these with Modge Podge.

For my next piece my cardstock backing scrap was a light lavender. I used up the last of a very favourite paper on this design. I have had it for a long time and saved every last snippet.

I made embellishments today as my other scrap playing project. I will show them in another post since this already has so many photos.
