Hello Folks,
This could be another post about my novel, "Bee Singer Queen", but it's not.
I recently subscribed to Louise De Masi's Patreon channel. She is an amazing watercolor artist and teacher. I'm hoping to improve my watercolor skills under her tutelage. http://www.louisedemasi.com/
In one of her new tutorials, she showed us how to paint a bee. I wasn't very pleased with my first attempt, but Terry thought it was great. He loves me. :)
I painted that on Thursday with my Yarka student grade paints. I used 100% cotton paper, but it's a cheaper brand from China. I haven't put out the big bucks for Arches paper yet, but I plan to do so in the near future.
Today I decided to give the bee tutorial another try. This time I looked up some images of bees online and studied them for a bit. Then I did my own drawing, which was slightly different than Louise's and not the same as the online images either. I think it gave me a better feel for how the little creature should look. I also used my Hydrus liquid water colour paints. They are highly pigmented, which is both nice and challenging. They seem like a hybrid between watercolor paint and ink. I still had problems with my paper. The paint dries on it super fast, not leaving me much of a window for seamless blends. Anyway, I am quite pleased with the result. Here is Bee #2.
Thanks for dropping by. I hope you are staying healthy in mind, body & spirit, wherever you live in this world.
Hugs & smiles,
Teresa

Lovely bee painting. Stay well, hugs, Valerie
Marvelous, Teresa! I see the improvement between bee 1 and bee 2 but the backgrounds of both of them are really incredible.
Your bee is fantastic, Teresa! :o)
Your second bee painting is brilliant, so realistic x
