Hello Folks,
On September 8, 2019 the Atlantic provinces of Canada were pummeled by Hurricane Dorian. Trees on Prince Edward Island that had stood for decades or even hundreds of years, were ripped from the ground, root systems and all. The clean-up took weeks that turned into months.
A large ash tree went down in the yard of a friend. With a little help, Terry harvested the fallen tree and brought it home. He wanted to make something beautiful from this tragedy.
When he cut into the ash wood, he fell in love with the beautiful rings inside. He also loved the look of the live edge (bark) and wanted to retain it. He sliced, buffed and sanded, praying for ideas as he experimented. Finally, he emerged from the garage to show me his first prototype. I knew he really had something.
We came up with the name, "Beauty from Ash" for his creations. We love the double meaning of using ash-wood, plus the idea of something beautiful rising from the ashes of destruction.
Here are some of his first creations.
The ornaments were a big hit at Christmas time. A friend liked them so well, she asked Terry to create something unique to go on the railings of her porch. It was Terry's first commission for his Beauty from Ash creations. He needed to make them extra-sturdy to withstand our PEI snow storms.
Thanks for dropping by. Be sure to check out our Facebook page, "TNT Artspirations" to see some of our other creations.
Hugs & smiles,
Teresa
